I Tried working out while fasting and nearly fainted. I wouldn't recommend it for most people.

When I am eating normally or at a deficit I am able to jog 2 or 3 miles, but I tried Jogging while fasting and I felt lethargic after 1/2 mile. And WOW, people weren’t wrong when they say to not work out when fasting.

I was at hr 48 and felt dizzy, lethargic, weak. I just wanted to lay down and sleep.

Never jogging while fasting again, walking is doable, but still takes a toll.

Last week in my 48 hour fast I set a deadlift PR on day 1., followed by the rest of my pull routine. Day 2 I went for a 3 mile hike in the mountains with a 30 pound weight vest. I broke my fast about 8 hours later at dinner time.

But I’ve been doing IF for a little while now and working out during my fast. It definitely takes getting used to. But part of it is being fat adapted. To me it’s crucial to get to the point where my body depletes glycogen. Working out fasted accelerates that process.

Are you just getting into it? I’ve noticed in a fasted state my workouts are much better. I need to make sure to have proper electrolytes, but for the most part I’m good.

If your body is meant to survive in a fasted state it’s meant to workout.

Answer

I’ve biked 20 miles, worked 7 hours, hit the sauna for 20 minutes, and danced recklessly at a concert, on the 3rd day of a water fast; then did roughly the same thing the fourth day

Mileage may vary - definitely not medical advice. Listen to your body. Don’t push yourself too far. But don’t count yourself out
