I unintentionally broke my fast

I’m on a 16:8 plan which I started 4 days ago. Everything has been going quite well. So today, I was dishing out yoghurt [medium fat strawberry- Parmalat] into a small dish for lunch and out of habit, I accidentally licked the spoon. Have I broken my fast?

I’ve decided to continue with as if nothing happened. But I’m low-key sad.

Thanks.

Measure this one small blip against a lifetime of good eating habits. Does it matter? No. Is being this obsessive over perfection healthy? Also no. Should you make it a habit? Not if intermittent fasting is a strategy that works for you.

Answer

I wouldn’t worry about it, you consumed like at most 30 calories of yogurt? You’re still fasting. If you need to feel better about it, go burn an extra 30 Cals off doing jumping jacks. With or without exercise, it is not ruining your fast. You got this!

I get it. Sometimes when I’m cooking for the family, I have to taste the food, and then I go to the sink and spit it out and rinse my mouth out. It’s lovely to watch, but I don’t swallow, so I figure I haven’t broken my fast. Some of us are OCD about it all.

Answer

No way a lick of yogurt will knock you out of a fasting state. If it was a sugary piece of candy that would be one thing, but a lick of yogurt isn’t going to get a response in raising your blood sugar anymore than a glass of water - unless you perhaps weigh under 10 pounds? No worries and remember this is for the long haul, you’ll have plenty of chances to get it 100% perfect - not that this tiny taste will make a difference. Keep rocking it!!!

Answer

I did this the other day, I made lunch for my partner and licked the spoon of mayo, like a proper lick and when I realised I spat it into the sink, had a giggle but just like you- kept going like it didn’t happen. It’s ok 😊
