IF and Eating disorder recovey

Disclaimer: I am not in any way recommending IF as a lifestyle for someone who deals with an ED and I would highly suggest one consults with a doctor and a mental health expert in order to overcome the hell of eating disorders.

But my case goes like this:

I started IF back in 2015, having no idea that I was practising something that has a name and is a lifestyle. I had anorexia and was severely underweight and decided to start eating whenever I was hungry. I felt hungry always at 3 pm and 9pm, so I started with that. I had just two meals where I made sure I incorporated “fear foods” Etc. Of course I gained weight as I had promised myself.

It was only in 2017 that I understood I was literally practicing IF, and learned about its other benefits for long term health.

It has been 7 years and I am still here, with all my EDs in the past, and still loving IF, as I deeply believe it has saved my life.

I know that IF is generally not recommended for people suffering with an eating disorder, but do I stant alone on supporting it even as a first attempt to start eating, or has anyone experienced a similar journey?

Answer

same here! not recovered (won’t get into details because its irrelevant, but im trying i promise) but I started IF when i was healthy and way before i even knew it had a name! I feel like if i “listened to my body” it would naturally put me in an IF state. It just feels natural to me and fits into my lifestyle. I kinda have an idea that its not recommended in recovery but I am kinda worried about docs pressuring me to stop IF if they think im doing it to fuel the ed when that’s definitely not the case and actually its the main way i feel comfortable eating
