IF and No Keto

I am starting IF BUT would not like to go Keto. I strength train 5-6 days of the week and run fasted 4-5 times a week.

Would still like to incorporate carbs in my diet.

Has anyone had success with IF without following Keto Diet

Answer

Yes. I have lost 40 pounds so far and experienced other benefits of increasing my insulin sensitivity. I do OMAD and I don’t restrict carbs. I do try to go easy on bread, pasta, rice, potatoes — like, I don’t make them the centerpiece of my meal — but I certainly do eat them. There is no requirement at all to go keto when you do IF.

Answer

Yes, however I do practice keto at times (couple months a year). I also have a restricted diet to begin with for my health, no gluten/soy/peanuts/oats, so I naturally eat lower carb. Have about 50-100 carbs a day on average, Id say. Not considered keto but still rather low carb, it is enough to keep me from getting too hangry and aids in my fasted strength training.

Been doing IF most of the time the past 4 years since I discovered the benefit of it. It has kept me healthy, I have no belly stretchmarks or retained weight gain even after pregnancy.

It is a great lifestyle change that you dont need to be too restrictive for. It is just a good idea to eat nutritiously dense carbs or you will get lots of cravings.

Answer

Yes, totally doable. I think low carb just makes it easier to fast, you don’t get as hungry during your fasting window. But I’ve definitely been eating carbs and counting calories and having success so far
