if bananas are high glycemic, why are they far more filling?

i find bananas way more filling than the same calorie amount of higher fiber / lower sugar fruits. if they are high glycemic and lower fiber, wouldn’t bananas cause an insulin spike and thus make me hungrier not fuller?

thanks.

Answer

Potatoes can have a higher GI than sugar. They’re also considered the most satiating food by many.

The conclusion is that hunger and satiation are not just down to glucose and insulin response. It’s more complicated.

Answer

Bananas are actually really interesting, the more they ripen the higher on the glycemic index they go. So if you are eating bananas right when they turn from green to yellow they would only be around the medium range on the glycemic index the more the ripen and the more the sugars develop the higher they go on the glycemic index

Answer

Bananas aren’t high glycemic, even at their ripest.

They go up to around 51, which is also still low GI, so wouldn’t cause an insulin spike.

They can go up higher when they’re overripe.

All fruit increases as they ripe.

(And a low to moderate Glycemic load)
