If you don't eat breakfast, when's the optimal time to drink coffee or tea in the morning?

I read that drinking coffee or tea on an empty stomach is bad for you, so if you fast in the morning (don’t eat breakfast), when would be the optimal time to drink your first cup of coffee or tea then?

I have never seen a study indicating that.

Most of the research is indicating when you should drink your last cup of coffee since caffeine is slowly metabolized and coffee later in the day can potentially affect your sleep quality. I have also not seen research indicating a time that would be ‘too early’ to start drinking coffee or tea in the morning.

Answer

try yerba mate. i’ve been drinking it first thing in the morning for years. and when i began IF a year ago made no change to this habit. but waiting until late afternoon to have caffeine (with food) is not an option for me.

I’m not sure if it’s bad for you per se, but it can be irritating to your stomach to have caffeine on an empty stomach. For some people it can cause nausea. I would suggest trying it yourself first to see if your body can handle it, since it would solve your problem if you like an early morning cup (personally I drink coffee every morning when I wake up and have no issues unless I have a second cup too soon afterwards or something like that) :)

Answer

As for tea I really don’t think there is anything bad in drinking them on an empty stomach, people might be sensitive to the caffeine in some teas.

I can recommend herbal tea in the morning and also in the evening.
