I’m taking water, caffeine and electrolytes. I assume this is my body cleaning itself out but want to be sure. Also which multivitamin won’t hurt my stomach? As in the past a multivitamin on an empty stomach made it hurt a lot
So, you’re probably drinking your electrolytes too fast. And, Vitamins are kind of pointless during a fast. You don’t absorb them very well at all without food. Especially without fats. You’re going to just be pooping out half of them. Take them on the days you do eat, you’ll be better off.
I get the shits like same day when I drink snake juice on day 1. Eventually you’ll have less and less shit and take less shits. It’s like you’re flushing your intestines out until it has nothing left. Usually by day 5 of snake juice my entire system is clean. Gross but happens to me.
I have a theory: the emptying happens in response to volume (that’s a medical term for this). So drinking too much of anything will cause a purge. Since the last “incident” I take smaller volumes of liquid at a time with good results. To test, I guess you can gulp a lot of water and see what happens.
The same goes for breaking the fast. I first thought it was the coffee, but just a more gradual break solved my problems.
Fasting comes with constipation and VERY MUCH NOT constipation, depending on the day, electrolytes, water intake and other factors. You gotta accept that when fasting your deuces will in no way be normal, lol.
It gets better the more you do it, but still…
I would cut the caffine and the electrolytes as well unless you feel like actual trash and have no other options. Water only is not going to allow you to shit. It’s the caffeine or too much salt water.
My guts liquified at ~45hrs last time. I was taking sodium/potassium/magnesium. Next time I do a 72 I’ll be fat fasting for a couple days before and taking only sodium. I’ve read and believe that 72 and under doesn’t require additional electrolytes.
I would think that if all you’re putting in is liquids, it would be normal to see liqids come out. Your liver is still working so there’s gonna be stuff going through intestines with a higher than normal liquid content.
Yup. Breaking a fast, I do it at home with no obligations. Fasting shits are a thing. It may smell different, but use your intuition, if you feel something is going wrong seek medical attention. That said, every long fast I’ve done ends in a difficult evening of very liquid and complicated shit.
Don’t drink “too much” water though. You can dehydrate yourself by drinking too much. Since, you don’t eat there isn’t anything to withhold the water. You will go to the toilet frequently because of that and there isn’t going to be much water left in your body. Salt cannot help at this case that much.
Diarrhea is real, yes. But it’s not because it’s “the body is cleaning itself”. The diarrhea can occur because of too much caffeine. I fast often and I have no diarrhea at all. I don’t drink coffee either when fasting.
My only “weird” thing is that I started to lift weight only on day 1 then do nothing, only long walks. Exercise is also not recommonded while fasting at all. Usually I fast 10 days and eat maintenance calories for 20 days + workout .
