Last Thursday I went to get my flu shot and a COVID booster. I was finishing up a 4 day fast that day and when I weighed in the following morning my weight had actually gone UP 3 lbs. I attributed it to my immune response and the the fact that I ate 2 pickles that evening as well (the extra salt probably caused some retention as well?).
Anyway, I broke my fast over the weekend and ate as I usually do, so I was expecting to be at pretty much the same weight when I weighed in this morning after 32hrs of fasting. NOPE. I weighed in even 3 lbs heavier than the previous weigh in. I’m baffled. This is day five after I received my shots. Would my body really retain this much water and for this many days?
I’m planning to complete another 4 day fast this week, but I’m just feeling kinda shitty seeing the same number on the scale as when I started over two weeks ago.
I think feeling shitty is a totally reasonable reaction! I get that fasting should be viewed as a lifestyle or a marathon, but when you are in the middle of a fast you are so ‘in the minutea of it’ that it is hard to see the big picture. When we do something that is really difficult, it’s hard not to say ‘where is my reward’. I read a post on here that said that weight loss is physics. If you eat less than what your body needs eventually you MUST lose weight. Good luck with your own personal marathon. I’m crossing my fingers for mine as well.
