Incorrect nutrition labels?

Hi, I was looking at the nutrition labels on different bacon products and noticed something weird. The serving sizes and the serving number never matchup correctly on any of the items. It looked wrong on all of the bacon products.

For e.g.

Oscar Mayer Naturally Hardwood Smoked Bacon has this on it’s nutrition label:

Serving Size 2 skilled cooked slices (19g)

Servings per container About 9

Weight of the package 16 oz

So based on the above info, the container has 9 servings of 19 grams which will be 9*19 = 171 grams. But 171 grams is only 6 ounces whereas the packet is 16oz. I know that the packet says “about 9 servings” but that seems way off. Am I missing something? Am I reading the label wrong somehow?

On the other hand, here is the nutrition info on Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon

Serving Size 1 slice (15g)

Servings per container 22

Weight of the package 12 oz

So based on the above info, the container has 22 servings of 15 grams which will be 22*15= 330 grams = 11.64 oz. Which seems to be a bit close.

How can two items with same rules of creating nutrition labels be so off?

Answer

For the first item, the nutrition info is for the cooked bacon, and cooked bacon weighs significantly less than raw bacon (because a lot of fat is released during the cooking process). For the second item, the nutrition info is for the raw bacon, which is why the weight closely matches the total weight of the package.
