Increased hunger after prolonged fasting

Hi fellow fasters! I noticed after prolonged fasting highly increased hunger that makes me overeat!

Have you noticed this too? And how do you deal with it? I can’t seem to control the hunger 😭 these are really strong hunger pangs and feel them come up after 1-2 days when breaking the fast. Also I crave unhealthy foods then which defeates its purpose.

Any tips are welcome

Answer

I make sure to break the fast properly, especially if you’re diabetic or insulin resistant, for a few days I stay off sugar and carbs and focus more on protein like eggs and beef to keep me full and satisfied, I’m less likely to binge if i eat those foods.

If I choose to eat something sugary it’s after eating a good source of protein that has a little salt in it and I portion control as I have a sweet tooth. Don’t buy lots of snacks for the home, just buy yourself a snack or two.

Answer

I don’t restrict how much I eat when I’m not fasting. If you’re doing extended fasting (multiple day long), you’re unlikely to eat back the deficit, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Some things to help keep you on track with your goals are to eat keto (really helps with cravings and make fasting easier too) and to limit your feeding window. I just eat as much as I want and then start the next fast.
