Intermittent Fasting and Exercise

I’m interested in following the 5/2 plan of intermittent fasting (restrict calorie intake 2 days of the week) and am wondering how exercise affects the amount of calories you can take in on fasting days.

If I am limited to about 500 calories on a fasting day and burn 300 calories through exercise, does that give me an extra 300 calories? Or is it 500 calories, no matter how many I burn that day?

Answer

I think this form of IF is better for females as well, since it is less stressful on the body. For the sake of not burning your body out too much I would say that you should still consume over 1000 calories especially if you are working out that intensely. I think it would be extremely difficult also to eat only 500 calories. Stick to nutrient dense foods and still ensure you are getting enough protein to sustain muscles used while working out.
