Internal medicine resident interested in implementing fasting into clinical practice. Suggestions?

I’m a third year internal medicine resident, and ran into Dr. Fung’s work with great interest. I’ve read through his best sellers and combed through his websites. I now have a growing list of patient’s whom I think would be a great candidate for fasting.

However despite the new knowledge I’ve accumulated, I’m realizing that I’m hesitant to implement it in real life. It’s a combination of being a resident working under an attending physician’s supervision ( who is not familiar with the practice of fasting) and uneasiness of never having observed it being done. It makes me nervous that I’m prescribing something that isn’t recommended by major institutions.

Any other physicians in this subreddit have success prescribing fasts to their patients, and how did you get started?

Answer

Not a physician, but there is one who does the LowCarbMD Podcast with Dr. Fung who mentioned his difficulties while a resident. His name is Tro and he’s pretty prolific on twitter. @DoctorTro is his handle and I bet he’d be willing to help if you messaged him.

Also, my personal Doc is pretty well known in low carb/fasting circles and may be able to point you to some resources. He’s Ted Naiman @tednaiman on twitter.

Bless you for trying to help your patients!
