Is any amount of soda ok?

As everyone knows, soda consumption is linked to unhealthy consequences. I am wondering if any amount is considered ok? What about soda that has cane sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup? What about soda imported from other countries that have better food regulation/standards than the US?

Answer

Full sugar soda has quite a bit of added sugar (regardless of the form of sugar) so a single soda would ideally be your main source of added sugar for that day. Basically your dessert for the day. Diet sodas have more leeway due to the lack of sugar and calories, but obviously should still be kept to a moderate daily consumption.

Answer

Yeah, it’s fine. In moderation it’s okay.

Nutrition has diminishing returns. If you’re consuming a little bit of soda it’s not going to make much of a difference than if you nixed it entirely.

It’s when you consume several cans a day that it’s an issue

Answer

Any soda is fine as long as it’s not some crazy excessive amount. It’s all a matter of context (the individual) and quantity. Using myself as an example, I have Crohn’s disease and get dehydrated and nauseous easily. Drinking a can or two of ginger ale helps me get back some of the lost fluids and helps my nausea and gives me a little bit of calories that are needed in my case. For any healthy person a can or two of soda isn’t going to kill you. Bottom’s up!

Answer

It’s not gonna kill you but it’s not gonna be good for you either. Consider it a dessert: 1-2 servings a day depending on the type of soda won’t have a large negative impact. Just make sure to rinse mouth with water after drinking and try not to sip over a long period.
