Is brown rice actually harder to digest than white rice?

Everyone does white rice but it makes me constipated. Brown rice feels really good for me

Answer

hard to digest is not quite the right term, it contains more fiber which increases satiety and prevents the release of sugars from the carbohydrates of the rice all at once which prevents the rapid rise of the blood glycemic index.

Answer

Obviously it’s different for different people. I eat a lot of white rice and it causes no problems at all for me. Brown rice does seem to correspond to some bowel irritation, as do other whole grains for me. Grains are primarily insoluble fibers. I do better getting my fiber from fruits and greens.

Answer

White rice should be broken down almost entirely into glucose and absorbed very easily in the small intestine. Being unable to tolerate white rice alone due to constipation would suggest some kind of problem – possibly an enzymatic deficiency, which would mean any starchy foods (potatoes, bread) would have the same effect as rice. It is likely that the constipation is due to another food and not white rice.

Answer

I eat primarily brown rice. I have zero constipation issues, don’t even need to wipe some days because of how good it is. It’s like corn in the way where you can’t fully digest it. That said, maybe it’s not for you
