Is doing a 4 day fast once every two weeks is the same as doing a 2 day fast every week ?

Or is it better/worse ?

For weight loss essentially.

Answer

Personally for me I would do the 4 day. The first 72 hours of a fast are usually the worst due to glycogen dumping. I would rather get over the hump and extend it vs going through the same thing every week. This is only if you are eating a higher carb diet, if you are following keto between fasts the impact should be minimal.

Answer

Depends what you’re eating between the two fasts. If you think about it in math terms, you’re essentially distributing the caloric deficits on the days you can eat. For example: To lose a kilo, you need to have a deficit 7000 calories (I’m just rounding and approximating btw). Assuming your daily caloric need is 2000, you can lose that by

  1. Not eating for 3.5 days
  2. Eating 1500 cal for 2 weeks
  3. Eating 1000 cal for 7 days.

Hurrah, you lost a kilo. But it will obviously come back if you go back to your old diet, most of us don’t need to only lose a kilo and also need to fix the ingrained bad eating habits so when we’re done with the fasting/dieting, we can return to a life of normal eating and enjoyment of food.

Also other factors esp for fasting- water weight is something that you easily lose, so it’s always to go a few kilos under your attempted weight so even when the water weight comes back, you’re still within a healthy range.

Answer

Both has great benefits, but the only factor I would worry about is are you able to do either without struggles? If a 48 hour fast is too much , I wouldn’t force a 96. Try to knock out a 2 day fast and move your way up 😃
