Is EVOO safe to cook with?

Regarding the polyunsaturated fats (however it’s only 10%). It is prone to oxidation. So would you recommend regular saturated fats instead of EVOO?

Answer

I personally wouldn’t worry about that! EVOO is a very healthy and safe oil to cook with. The only time I would be hesitant is when cooking at high temperatures, as it’s smoke point is right around 400 degrees F. Above these temperatures it might be better to use something like avocado oil instead. Hope this helps!

Answer

I only use saturated fats (butter, coconut oil, lard, etc.) to cook in on rare occasions so i would not recommended switching to them. As mentioned by /benmillernutrition you have to watch your heat when using EVOO. For this reason I use it primarily for saute dishes switching to an oil with a higher smoking point for searing or pan frying. (Peanut, avocado or refined olive oil)

Hope this helps answer your question. Stay happy, healthy and safe.
