Is fasting 2x a week sustainable?

I want to fast on Mondays and Fridays.

I really want to lose 2 pounds a week. Is this doable?

Answer

Two times a week is very sustainable, but you may see better success doing two consecutive days.

I’m in the middle of a 12-week fasting program to hit my target weight by Christmas. I’m eating 3 dinners a week and lunch on one of the days on Sun/Wed/Fri (72x48x48). On this plan, I should lose about 5lbs a week.

It’s doable but I don’t know about the 2lbs/week. If you’re large, or have a lot to lose, it might work. I’m over 50, hypothyroid, with a 25 year yo-yo dieting history so I have taken further. I’m targeting eating approximately 4 days per week, which is a combination of 40s, some 64s, and some 22s. And I’m keto on feeding days. I’m losing about 1.5 lbs per week (25 lbs to goal)

Answer

That’s what I do (I fast on days I don’t go to gym) and I’ve lost 10 pounds this month, but disclaimer - it’s also due to me being better with my diet overall.

You can also extend the fast a bit more than 24hrs. For me 36 is pretty easy to do. For example, I’ll have my last meal by 7pm Friday and then end the fast Sunday morning.
