Answer

Yes it does. I’m trying to remember the study a few years back where they gave people a smart phone app to registered when they ate. Basically most people wake up in the morning and don’t stop eating until like 11pm at night, be it a meal, snack, liquid calories, and everything in between. Today, the lowest 10% of people are eating 3.3 times a day. The highest 10% eat 11.5 times a day.

If you eat clean, and fast for 14 hours, keeping your eating to 2 meals and no snacking at all, you would be waaaay ahead of the game and in route to fix some of the worst eating habits, the constant snacking. Cure the snacking and longer fasts become easy.

Before the 70’s, before we were told fat was bad, grains good, eat a bunch of small meals a day, people ate 3 times a day. It is not a coincidence that this was when the obesity pandemic started.

I don’t know about weight loss, but there have been studies showing that 14 hours can have some health benefits since it gives the gut a little time to rest. It should be paired with healthy eating habits, of course.

It’s easy to see other people kicking ass at long fasts and feeling like you might be missing something. It’s important to remember that consistency matters more than anything.

Any amount of meal skipping will reduce your calories and likely lead to some amount of weight loss, unless you make up for it by eating larger meals or something. Find the balance that works for you. For me, it’s 3 day fasts. For you it might be 24 hour fasts or OMAD. Everybody’s different.
