I’ve started fasting from 7pm to 11am, but like to go to the gym in the morning (around 6am before work). Is it a good idea to hit the gym with an empty stomach? if not, how do people workout in the morning fit their fasting window? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Edit: Thank you very much guys. I feel confident now! Probably expecting to feel a bit shit for first few days, but now I know it’s cool and I am not harming myself.
I exclusively work out fasted. Being even a little fed has always made me feel super gross while working out. I would go so far to say that the advice to ‘fuel up’ before a workout prevented me from developing a good fitness routine for years.
I’ve been doing fasted workouts for around 2 months now. I love it personally. My fasting period is about the same as yours and I workout usually between 9 and 12. Not for 3 hours mind you, more like an hour and a half.
I always work out in a fasted state in the morning. My goal in doing this is to deplete any glycogen in the muscles and get into ketosis faster. It may take a little getting used to but I’ve been doing that since 2018.
I do midweek runs fasted. It was tougher at the start but I’m used to it now, I’ll do anything up to about 12 miles with just water (but take a couple of energy gels with me just in case). I’ve heard it’s good training for the latter part of longer races, when you’ve depleted your glycogen stores.
