This has happened to me a few times, I recently started fasting again, OMAD, and I know its best to eat protein first, then the other stuff. (im not keto but i know getting in our protein matters) But once in a while I dont pay attention to that or forget, like today.
I made trader joes cauli gnocchi w/ pumpkin vodka sauce– it cools down super quick plus it looked delish, so I ate that first, then realized… damn it.. I’m pretty content now.. if I didn’t have all these rules in my head nowadays and ONLY went by how full I am, Id probably stop now. I may overfill my tum if I eat my other thing. Theres almost NO protein, so I’d end this day with barely any. I ate my 2nd item, a little leftover chicken fried rice, the chicken ended being nasty, i threw it out and quickly cooked 2 eggs to eat instead. Now I’m super uncomfortable, bloated feeling, and kicking myself for continuing to eat, even if it was a healthy ‘protein’.
I get why everyone talks about these rules, macros and all, but im starting to question this, I miss when I didnt know about x grams per day of protein, and just went by how my body felt.
What does everyone else do? If you ALREADY ate a thing, without protein and are satiated.
Tbh, in a situation like this, I would not eat these eggs right after gnocchi. I would boil them and eat them with a mountain of vegetables fresh and cooked or stemmed and olive oil in my second meal of the day. Yes, I know that you are on OMAD, but I would do TMAD this day.
Protein matters yes, but not getting enough protein is a cumulative effect, not something that’s going to ruin you after a single day.
Protein intake is a guideline. It’s a medical fact that protein intake is required to maintain your muscle mass, and that as you age your body gets less and less efficient at metabolizing protein, which will increase your protein requirements over time. Your body can only synthesize protein from food source or by breaking down your existing muscle mass. Taking in protein is preferable to breaking down existing protein so that’s why intake is important.
Stop eating if you are full. Don’t force yourself to eat trying to meet every “rule”. That can lead to overeating just trying to meet some arbitrary calorie or macro level.
