Is it okay to do a long fast before getting out wisdom teeth?

Now since the holidays are over and overrate the last few days I want to get back on the grind by doing a four day fast which would be up until my wisdom teeth appointment on friday. I’m not going to be put down under and will be awake the entire time btw so just wanna make sure if it’s safe to fast until then.

Edit: I’m getting a local anesthetic btw.

Answer

Talk to your dentist/doctor. They know what kind of anesthesia / pain killers you’ll be getting, they need to know if you haven’t eaten anything over a period of time.

Personally when it comes to immediate healthcare / medication / surgeries etc I’m not messing around. Fasting can wait until you’ve recovered

Answer

I would not fast up until the date of the extractions. Eat lightly the day before and day of. You really don’t want your blood sugar levels all weird during the procedure. Go ahead and start fasting again the day after the surgery. A couple of pounds is not worth the risk of an adverse reaction. Edit: I’m a retired dental hygienist with some training in diet and nutrition.
