Is it safe to fast intermittently while on appetite suppressants?

Context: I have bipolar type 1 and have been prescribed zyprexa which has caused me to gain a lot of weight over the years, so my psychiatrist prescribed abilify as an appetite suppressant. This has caused my weight to stay put, as in not decrease or increase since I started taking them. As a Muslim I decided to stop taking abilify during Ramadan as I thought it was unnecessary, and have stopped intermittent fasting since with that thought in mind. I now want to start intermittent fasting again and want to know if it is safe to do so while taking the above mentioned drug.

Answer

Give it a bash for a few days and if you arent meeting your caloric requirements during your eating window due to lack of appitite just ditch the intermmittent fasting and ask your doctor about fat binders or some other weight loss aid

Answer

I also suggest that you not make changes to your medications during Ramadan. Find a Muslim endocrinologist or at minimum primary care doctor who is willing to talk with you in a comprehensive manner about your diet, medications, and IF. People are hospitalized every Ramadan through changing their medications without medical supervision.
