Edit: By healthy I mean appropriate for weight loss.
Edit 2: it’s not like I’m eating 4 poke bowls a day. I meant if it’s a good balanced meal to have if you’re on an exercise and weight loss plan.
So I’ve been ordering from a nearby poke spot that is amazing. I mostly get their tofu bowl: includes spring mix salad, brown rice, edamame, radish, seaweed salad, tempura flakes, tomato’s, cucumbers, sesame dressing and spicy ginger dressing. I usually go light - medium on the dressing.
It’s SOO yummy, and feels healthy. But is it? Is it good for weight loss?
Poke is way healthier than choosing five guys or any other fast food joint. Chipotle is healthy as well. It depends what you add in it of course. If there are no calories though brother, that is a problem in my opinion, the place where I get poke has the calories listed and for everything that is included in there. I get there tuna lover from Hawaii poke. less than 500 calories!
“Healthy” and “good for weight loss” are two entirely different concepts.
Yes, it sounds healthy.
“Good for weight loss”? Depends on how many calories are in it, and what the rest of your calorie intake looks like.
If you are defining healthy by capacity for weight loss then a food inherently cannot be healthy because it’s your lifestyle that determines whether or not you’ll lose weight. If you’re eating like 10 poke bowls a day and you’re not exercising then it is not healthy because you will gain weight. On the other hand if that’s the only meal you eat then you’ll probably lose weight and you can classify that as “healthy”
Get some salad dressing at home and measure a tablespoon and drizzle it on rice so you know what that looks like. It’s going to be about 75 calories/tablespoon so that might give you a better idea if what your portion size looks like. I’d also recommend measuring 1/4 cup of rice. I’ve never been to a poke place that uses only 4 tbsp of rice because one scoop is at least half a cup. If you can do poke without sauce (or get on side so you can measure) and if you can confirm rice portion, then yes it can be a lower calorie option
