Steel cut is better than instant as it’s less processed but all porridge free of added sugar is healthy. This is due to the high fiber content, notably beta glucans- a viscous soluble fiber proven to reduce cholesterol levels and slow digestion by gelling up in the gi tract when it absorbs water. I would recommend combining porridge with a healthy fat and lean protein source to make a more balanced meal and slow glucose absorption. Eg porridge with fat free unflavoured greek yogurt, berries and peanut butter.Overall however porridge is slow digesting, filling and nutritous and a great start to the day
Yes. Loads of evidence for including whole grains in your diet for a variety of reasons. Vitamins and minerals. Gut bacteria like it. The soluble fibre lowers your cholesterol levels. It’s a slow release carb and very filling for most people so good to keep you going until lunch.
