Is the fasting window or the limited eating window more important?

My life is a little hectic right now and I find that I’ve been driving sticking to my fasting hours, but my eating window will often be hours longer than it ideally should be.

I was curious if I should try to hit the eating time frame more strictly or if as long as I fast for my set hours I’m good?

Ex. My fast ends at 10am, I have breakfast and then my wife has to stay late at work so I end up not eating dinner until 8:30pm or later.

Answer

In my experience, it’s the fasting window that really matters. This may be unpopular, but my attitude is that as long as I had 16 hours I’m good. Sometimes it’s 20, sometimes it’s much longer. And every once in a while, I feel like it’s not the end of the world to blow off fasting for various reasons. It’s been very effective for me.

There’s new research to suggest that the time of the window may make a difference. Thomas Delauer just did a video recapping that study. It’s new so FWiW but the research suggests that making your eating windows in the early morning from 6a-3p may be more beneficial than eating from 1p-8p.
