Either way they both seem to be 99.9% sugar
Yeah.
Pure maple syrup contains medicinally beneficial compounds, pharmacy researcher finds
But it’s still not a health food. Use it sparingly for flavor. I add it to my oatmeal and use it to sweeten my coffee.
The imitation stuff is just brown-coloured high-fructose corn syrup. But I might also have some prejudicial bias, since I’m Canadian, and feel a patriotic duty to defend our maple sizzurp.
I think we should just prioritize real food over synthetic food. People have gotten sicker and sicker as we’ve eaten more and more synthetic food. Correlation or causation? Idk, a lot has changed in recent decades so it could be something else causing our problems. But given that we know so little about the effects of different foods, especially the newer synthetic stuff, I think it’s best to operate as if synthetic food is not ideal.

Born and raised in NW PA where the sweet sap flows. If my mom or dad caught me eating that stuff they would disown me and strip me of my name. Spend the extra couple bucks and buy real maple syrup.
Objectively, not really, at least not that I was ever able to discover when I researched the same question.
That being said, you may find that you need less of the real thing because it tastes SO much better.
OR… you might find that you use MORE because it tastes SO much better….!
But in the end, your typical pancakes or waffles with syrup is just carbs on carbs and “nutrition” is just… not present (for most people).
I live in New Hampshire and I’m a total snob for real maple syrup. Yes it’s expensive, and it’s worth it. We tap a dozen trees in our yard and boil it down every spring. We also drink a fair amount of fresh sap which has plenty of nutrients just in lower concentration
