Is “Total fat” just the sum of saturated fat, unsaturated fat, and cholesterol?

Please help me make sense of this. My understanding has been that a food’s total fat content is the sum of saturated fat, unsaturated fat, and cholesterol. If this is true, then Oreos (7g total fat, 2g saturated fat, 0mg cholesterol, unspecified unsaturated fat) are rich in unsaturated fats. In fact, even though it’s obviously a junk food, this would mean that Oreos are actually a very cholesterol-friendly snack, right? I find a hard time believing this, so I need someone smarter than me to let me know if I’m being crazy.

Thank you in advance for educating me on this nutrition topic!

Answer

Not a direct answer, but Oreos are not a cholesterol heathy food because they are loaded with sugar. Excess sugar leads to your liver creating fat and dumping it out into your blood in the form of triglycerides and LDL (bad cholesterol). So, no, please don’t eat them.

Eggs, which have cholesterol, are much healthier, filled with protein and fat and choline.
