IYO/IYE how can one successfully fast (rolling 48s) *without* experiencing hair loss?

I’m assuming making sure all macros/nutrients are met during the eating times? Any other advice? What has been your experience? Is it possible to successfully fast and not lose hair?

Answer

Minoxidil (rogaine) foam applied directly to the scalp at least once a day, if not twice a day.

It works well for me, the stuff restarts the hair growth cycle so you might see accelerated loss when you first start using it but that’s just new healthy hairs kicking out old dead ones

I’d explore the fact that not only while prolonged fasting are you likely not taking in relevant nutrients to maintaining healthy hair if you have any balding genetics but you are also eliciting a pretty good stress response in your body so it’s a double whammy. I’d recommend supplementing biotin at a decently high dosage as it won’t mess up the fast. I hate WebMD usually but this is a solid article on this. I personally take a multivitamin softgel everyday with high biotin and trace minerals including on prolonged fasting days as I honestly have never seen a valid reason to not include it in that sort of regime. The oils in the softgels are like 5-10 calories of fat so it’s almost a completely non-existent reaction to anything your body accomplishes while fasting.
