Jason Fung books - which to buy

I realize that although I’ve had some success with IF, I don’t REALLY know what I’m doing lol. I want to learn more about the science and how to maximize weight loss doing 16/18 fasts. I snack a lot too, so want to read more about the negative effects of that on fasting (I know it’s bad, I just need to understand how bad to really make that change).

I’ve seen “The Obesity Code” recommended here a lot, but also just saw Dr. Fung has another book called “The Complete Guide to Fasting”. I’m wondering if it’s worth buying both or just the Obesity Code. Is there is a reason the Obesity Code is better than the Complete Guide?

Also more trivial but wondering if these are the kinds of books people prefer to have hard copies of to refer to loosely, make notes, etc. or would a kindle version be a good idea? Thanks in advance!

Answer

I got the audiobook of The Obesity Code and now want a hardcopy for the appendices. I haven’t read his other one but I’d like to. I’ve also read Fast Feast Repeat and it was also great. I may also want to get that one as a hard copy just to get the reference section. I like reading about the science and biology. Either way I don’t think you can go wrong.

Answer

I read the Complete Guide to Fasting and found it helped me understand the biological processes involved. I prefer hard copies of books but felt OK lending mine to a friend. I lent it with a disclaimer, though - I don’t recall him addressing the affect of fasting on the gall bladder, so that’s something to look into outside the book.

I haven’t read the other.

I read and loved The Obesity Code. I had been fasting 16:8 off and on prior to reading this book, but after it really helped me understand that it works beyond just helping with CICO. It helped motivate me to want to be more consistent with my fasting periods and clean up my diet.

Answer

If you really want to delve into the science behind Obesity then Obesity Code. The Complete guide is probably a better book if you want a bit of science but also a reasonably comprehensive guide on how to fast, different types of fasts etc.

I’m a hard copy book person.

Answer

I highly recommend reading(or listening to)The Obesity Code first. I would have saved myself a lot of frustration if I had done so. After two years on and off with IF I’m finally starting to lose weight slowly and consistently after reading it.
