Jaundice from fasting and a few other questions

A little about me, I started this journey at #262 lbs (6’1”) and am shooting for a goal weight of #182. I am not obese, per se, but i do carry a lot of extra weight. My goal is to slim down and build lean muscle while also lowering my blood pressure.

I just finished a 72 hour fast and noticed towards the end of the last day my eyes were starting to Jaundice. It wasn’t horrible and seems to be subsiding (24 hours later) but is still there. Is this normal?

Also, I had 2 wet BM’s on day 2 and have since eaten 3 meals over (36 hours) and have not had a BM since the watery ones. Same question, is this normal.

If i do a 72 hour or longer, water fast when should I be adding in salts and potassium? Also, how often is it ok to do a 72 + hour fast. I dropped 11 pounds in the last water fast.

I’m am following the keto plan running a 30% macro deficit and starting to work out. I am currently running the 16/8 fast and it appears to be the best one for working out while fasting but am curious about the effects of fasting as it just begins around the 16 hour mark. I made it through the 3 day fast relatively easy since I was used to the 16/8.

Open to hear a lot of options and if you can back up claims even better.

First of all, chances are at that high of a weight you are technically obese. Overweight starts at around 210 for your height.

I believe the recommendation is to listen to your body to know about electrolytes. They don’t hurt and are cheap as hell.

Not certain about jaundice. Now, I have my own ideas… Vitamins and ‘toxins’ (toxins being what your body needed out of circulation, not necessarily a poison) are stored in bodyfat. Jaundice is an indication of your liver struggling to keep up filtering. Idk about your life before this but there is a good chance at your high body weight, that water fast was a shock to the system and your body was shedding its stored garbage.

Stool consistency has many variables, but no fiber means little consistency. Also, a lot depends on your diet before fasting. I did a month of lazy keto before starting and worked out those little bugs. So I am consistent no matter what, personally.

Up to you if you want to consult a doctor or just keep going. It does get easier on your body each time you fast.

I am 5’9” and about two months ago, I was 209 lbs. My eyes were yellowish in color; had no energy in the afternoon, and had too take a nap; had bad breath, severe allergy, and lower back aches from chronic inflammation probably due to incorrect siting position. At that point, i realized i was becoming obese. And it’s a hard truth to swallow.

But that’s also when I discovered water fasting, and eventually dry fasting, IF and keto dieting. Once you learn something, you keep researching and learn a whole lot more about it.

I went on a fasting journey (combination of water fast, dry fast and IF) and dropped my weight from 209 to now 176 in 2 months and 4 days. My bodyfat dropped from 30%+ to 19%. I did this by fasting and eating one meal a day (OMAD) mostly on keto diet, but have a fruits eating meal once in a while.

Once I get to my goal weight, which is very close now, I will start eating more carbs and doing weight training again. I can already see some definition on my abs with proper lighting, and I want to get back to about 185 lbs weight with 13-15% bodyfat.

All the conditions you mentioned, sounded like detox symptoms. Listen to your body, if you have a lot of toxins, give yourself a break and break the fast, re-feed for a few days and start fasting again.

I didn’t fast for straight 2 months, but I think my fasting journey is still very successful, better than I had ever imagined. I have tried so many different ways before, in the past 10+ years, this is the first time I have ever dropped to this low weight and bodyfat %.

Take your time, once you are done in a few months or year, and when you look back, you will see it’s all worth it and there really is no rush, you are trying to undo all the harm you had done to you body over the years in a very short period of time. Take your time and do it properly.

And yes, you need to supplement electrolyte during long water fasts, and you need to start on day 1 of water fast. It’s cheap if you mix your own electrolyte with salt (i use Himalayan pink salt) and potassium (NoSalt). Learn the ratio on line.

Also, an update, I have been re feeding Keto and getting daily cardio with some strength training as well. The Jaundice has subsided, but not eye are still a little red. I plan on doing another water fast (roughly 5-7 days long) starting this Tuesday.

Is it too soon to start again? Also, will taking daily pink Himalayan salt do the trick for salt? I d ok not need magnesium or potassium until I start cramping correct.

Side note, I am a tobacco chewer and am in the process of stopping before I begin my next fast. Should I wait till the nicotine leaves my system or just roll on and embrace the suck.
