Just a beginner looking for advice

Hi so my doctor recommended my friend does 2 48-hour fasts a week to lose weight? Does this sound about right as I’m thinking of trying it, any tips would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been 16:8 fasting for about a month now, thank you

Answer

Personally, I’d start with a 24-hour, then 36-hour fast, then work your way up to two 48s a week.

Tips for getting through your non-eating day (on a 48) would be to stay busy and drink tons of water—or unsweetened coffee/tea if you’re allowing yourself that. Try not to obsess over not eating that day, it makes it harder mentally than it really is.

I’ve been doing 3 about 48-hours fasts a week. One dinner meal on Thursday and Tuesday. Later part of Saturday I have my cheat day and on Sunday I have dinner. When I slip on the days I’m fasting I don’t blame myself for it because I’ve already fasted for over 18+ hours. I work out every day and after a meal(to get faster into fat-burning mode) at home from 15 minutes to 1 hour and stretch. In the mornings I take fish oil, multivitamins (NOW’s Adam is my preference it has no iron), a Thyroid support supplement(electrolyte balance), Apple Cider Vinegar in tablet form to avoid damaging teeth, probiotics, and Berberine(I take it because my doctor told me I’m in danger of getting Diabetes 2). I’m obese and have ulcerative colitis that caused me to go to the bathroom 5 times a day to do number 2 but not any more thanks to fasting.

I started with lunch and dinner 18:6 and moved it to 20:4 and then went to 23:1 with dinner and then started to extend it to 48 hours. I’ve followed Dr. Ekberg(Started fasting after seeing his videos) and Dr. Berg on Youtube, and The Fasting for Life, Huberman Lab, Six Miles to Supper, and Lifespan with Dr. Sinclair on Spotify.

I haven’t excluded any food yet but heavy carbs food, candy, and such don’t go down as easily anymore and the stomach won’t be happy afterward. I’ve thought about fasting Saturday for 72 hours fast but I find it unpleasing, 48 hours are no problem for me. As of now, I’m down 50 pounds in 5 months. I just started working out and fixing up my supplements. And yes I hit a plateau around Christmas with 48 hours fasts, just be patient when you hit it.
