Just a question about beta carotene

Beta Carotene can cause your skin to turn orange, yes? And Beets contain beta carotene, so if one primarily just eats beets, could their skin turn orange?

Answer

If you mean beet roots, they aren’t a significant source of beta carotene. I don’t think it would be physically possible to eat enough to get carotenosis from them.

If you mean beet greens, then yes. Like many other leafy greens, they are a good source, so if you eat a lot of them then your skin could turn orangish/yellowish.

This happened to me and my brother! My mom had a huge pile of baby carrots from her garden and said, eat as many as you want before they go limp. So we ate carrots for every snack for weeks and had a nice golden tan. It was awesome. However I eat a beet and a carrot pretty much every day now and it hasn’t happened again

Answer

Golden beets contain beta carotene. Regular, red beets and other red vegetables contain anthocyanins which give them that purple-red colouring:) Either way I feel like you would have to eat A LOT of either for your skin to change colour!
