Just ended a 20 day fast, 32 lbs lost

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for their support. I just ended a 20-day fast today. Started at 285 lbs, down to 253 lbs. (Height 6’1”).

My only concern was over electrolytes. I had never gone without food this long before. About a third to half way into the fast, I started getting episodes of lightheadedness and a general uneasiness from time to time.

I had tried sachets of electrolytes that I found at whole foods, but I didn’t like the idea that they were flavored, and the amounts of electrolytes in those sachets seemed to be too small.

Then I tried rolling my own electrolyte drink buying potassium chloride in bulk and using table salt and a store bought magnesium malate supplement.

The potassium chloride gave me the runs, so after doing some research I was dosing very small amounts, but I’m not sure if I was getting enough.

I have used LMNT in the past while doing carnivore and keto, although I’ve never tried it with a water fast.

So, I’m still going to try to figure all that out.

My aim is to get down under 200 lb so I’m going to try another fast soon, but not too soon. I have to go to the doctor at the end of October so I was thinking of doing a 14-day fast which would end just 3 days after my doctor appointment.

I’ll have a blood test taken at that time, and I can see where my electrolyte levels are. By then I will have hope to have gotten the electrolyte cocktail right whether it be by Rolling my own, or buying something commercial.

Anyway, thanks again to all who had commented on my previous posts. Onward and upward.

>The potassium chloride gave me the runs

Rofl that was an unhappy surprise for me as well. I made this “keto flu” drink minus the lemon/lime and erythritol; but everything else was the same. The first time I drank it, I felt like a million bucks. But every subsequent fast + drink was continuously “cleaning the colon” as it were.

Re your doctor’s visit, I was 4 days into a fast last time I got bloods done and my cholesterol was much higher than normal. Got freaked out and got them taken again a few days after refeeding and they were been to normal.

Just mentioning it in case it saves you from an unneeded shock!

Congratulations!!! Last time I did a water fast I only made it to 7 days, so definitely a job well done here! I’ve got a recommendation for electrolytes. It’s called Hi-Lyte . It comes in a liquid form and doesn’t have that ocean water taste some natural electrolyte supplements have. I put 1 tsp in my half gallon jug and it helps me get through the day. I also like a sprinkle of Himalayan salt for a boost of energy. Good luck on reaching your goals! I have no doubt you will get under 200 with your ambition :)
