Never read about this on this sub, but fasting increases uric acid levels apparently. I am on day 13 and woke up with gout in my big toe. Never would’ve expected that one.
It happened to me too! I’ve fasted until 5pm since January 1st and the gout hit in August. Around the same time I started to get daily kidney soreness. It’s pretty depressing. I’ve tried to make sure I’m better hydrated and tried various herbal teas, but my toe still hurts and kidneys aren’t happy. I really need to lose weight so it’s a tough situation!
My father experiences gout every now and then (particularly after meat-heavy alcohol-heavy periods of time), and also happens to be doing 10-day fasts twice a year every year for some 20 years now, and he noticed that every time he completes a fast, he gets gout afterwards, even after a long period of not getting gout after meat/alcohol.
Same, same. Take Goutrin and powdered flavorless collagen, religiously, every day. I had gout for years, started this regiment 1.5 years ago, it’s gone but it took 3 months. Fasting or low carb now, no issue unless I get carried away with beer or scotch on a cheat day.
I started doing OMAD quite strictly in June and got gout pretty soon afterwards. Thankfully I haven’t had a recurrence despite sticking to OMAD most of the time since then and doing 48 hour fasts quite regularly too. I don’t know why it wouldn’t have come back, though!
