Hello all, hopefully I will get a response for this post. I have been fasting for a few years (36 hrs to 110hrs). I am currently on medication that needs protein to work. However, I really want to do a 3 day fast to gain the benefits from autophagy. I have been doing 40 hr fasts 3x week but have to reconsider due to the meds not working. Soooo…. I have read mixed info saying keto can also achieve autophagy states. My hope was to take my meds in the morning with an egg and continue the fast. Will this break it?
You’re talking about keto-adapted autophagy, which is entirely possible and seems like the best option for you. It is however not fasting to eat anything. Strictly speaking: any amount of calories, no matter how small, disrupts the fasting process.
I think a lot of people get confused because it is possible to preserve the benefits of intermittent fasting—burning fat for fuel, controlled blood sugar levels, etc.— but the definition of being in a fasted state is not generally recommended to consume anything other than a few select beverages.
