Ladies of this sub - do you have to quit IF during your cycle?

Hi there,

I’ve been doing 16:8 with great results … I feel wonderful and can already tell the difference in my body. I don’t have much weight to lose … (goal is 20 lb).

I recently entered PMS for the first time during my new diet and I suffer from severe anemia due to endometriosis / other ladies issues. The few days before my period, I turned ghostly pale and had some hair loss. I was hangry in the AM and decided to go ahead and eat a light breakfast and it helped with my energy levels. I’m just past my cycle now and back on the diet with no issues …

Do any of you ladies also have to stop IF shortly during a certain stage of your cycle? Has that affected your weight loss?

Thanks!

Answer

on my period rn and yes, it’s a struggle. last night I caved (started my fast at 5 pm as usual but at 8 I was super hungry) then I tried the scale this morning and still managed to reach my lowest weight so far haha. when pms or on my period I usually crave sweets or feel hungrier than usual, thus as long as I eat as healthy as possible i don’t care if my IF routine gets altered during that week

I haven’t had any changes in my energy or period timings/intensity since I started fasting a few months ago. I fast about 18-20 hours even during my periods. But I have noticed I have an increased desire for sweets/carbs before and during that time.

Answer

It is a struggle yeah. I get migraines and on my period I usually get really sick with a migraine and am bedridden completely. If I’m hungry I sometimes actually faint so I take it easy with IF on my period and if I really feel like I need to eat I just do it.

People have cheat days with IF all the time and they actually help you reset your metabolism so I don’t feel guilty about it.

Answer

No I havent, but everyone is different! I did have to stop IF during pregnancy to help combat the nausea in the beginning, eating many small meals throughout the day surprisingly prevented nausea for me and later in pregnancy because I couldnt get down the large meals necessary to do IF while growing a human.

If that’s what works best for you, def make it work for you!

Please get your iron and hemoglobin levels checked and then join The Iron Protocol facebook group. Read the 7 guides (ignore the members posts for now, just read the guides) and follow the protocol. It saved my life!

Answer

This has been my first month and just ended my cycle. I do 20:4 or OMAD, but for 2 days during my cycle, I allowed myself to do 16:8. So if you’re already doing 16:8, maybe try to just maintain a 12 hour fast. That way you don’t feel like you “fell off,” and you still give yourself a little break.
