Is anyone familiar with lean body mass and interested in helping me understand more about it? Thanks
Most guidelines are dumb to use. If I use a system like BMI then I’m technically considered overweight despite being in great shape. I don’t think there’s an exact weight anyone should be at because we’re all shaped differently regardless of height.
Lean body mass is everything that isn’t fat. Skeletal muscle, bone, blood, organs, etc. As you gain and lose weight your lean body mass will also go up or down with it, even if your skeletal muscle remains the same.
Lean body mass is how much you weigh if you take out fat.
If you have someone that weighs 150 lbs and they are 20% bodyfat (aka, 80% lean), then their weight is 150, their lean body mass is 150 - (150x0.20) = 120 lbs.
A lot of this has to do with genetics. You can do things like a healthy diet, exercise, drink water, etc. but there can be a dude eating like shit and have a way leaner body than you. Just focus on a healthy diet and exercise and through time you will see progress if you’re consistent.
There’s really not much to a lean body than what I said above and maybe learning more in depth on your own (google, books, etc.) about exercises that target body fat reduction (cardio, weights, etc.) as well as your diet (protein, carbs, etc.).
Trying to estimate your BMI levels and all that is more important with health issues but if it’s body physique, consistency with the factors I said above is what gets the job done.
