Let's talk best refeed for extended dry fasting.

It’s the fruits refeed VS fats/probiotics refeed. I’d like to hear everyone’s experiences for which is best.

In past extended fasts (2 7 days, one 8 day) I refed with fruits, I’d usually break my fast with water then cucumber+apple juice and then blended apples, progressing onto other solid or blended fruits in the following days. This worked out quite fine physically, my stomach was happy and digestion was great.. BUT it did trigger huge waves of hunger and left me feeling 100% NOT satiated. And that leads to binges or at the very least terrible cravings to binge which take a ton of energy to resist.

SO, this time (I’m on day 2 of an 11 day goal) I’d like to try the other way, i.e no sugars, no carbs but fats instead. My only hesitation is possible indigestion… an avocado feels like it might be hard on the reawakening digestive system.

The way I see it there are three ways to refeed;

  1. Fruits (sugars/carbs). This works for many.
  2. Fats. Keto crowd obvs swear by it, but works for non keto people as well.
  3. Steamed low carb veggies; broccoli, peas, green beans, asparagus, spinach. Very low carb, but no fat either, soft and easy on the digestion.

Which do you all think is THE best way?

I would personally recommend against any sugar to break an extended dry fast. But, if you’re otherwise healthy having some fruit won’t be the worst thing to eat. Having some junk sweets would be testing your luck of course.

I like to break a fast with bone broth, sunflower seeds, an egg or two, maybe a little bit of whole milk. I will eat meat after that usually.

For me, fruits work best. My body craves them after a long dry fast and they are satiating. But to each their own - a lot of people do the keto diet on this sub, and I’ve seen people do carnivore as well. Every body is different and honestly the best thing to do is what works best for you individually! And if you don’t know what that is, experiment. The body responds happily to what works for it

in my opinión, even though fruits are healthy, in this case, insulin sensitivity i think is very high which is why people report feeling cravings after eating it, plus it’s not as nutritionally rich as other foods - that’s 2 partial negatives. it is easy on digestion i can assume but that’s about it. That’s why i think bone broth, raw milk and kefir and yogurt are the best for the first day, and depending on the strength and ability of your stomach, a good grassfed steak even if you don’t normally buy grassfed just buy a few for the recovery period. This will supply tons of nutrients and suppress cravings much better. then move onto fruits the third or fourth day or maybe later if possible
