Let's talk coffee ☕

I tried to stop drinking it when I started IF a little over a month ago. During the holidays I did pick it back up but have sense cut it out again. I like my flavored sweetened coffees. For those of you who made the switch to black coffee..how did you do it!?! I want my hot coffee on these cold mornings but I have never liked black coffee. If there is a trick to it I’m missing, let me know!

It took me about 10 days of forcing black coffee before I finally found it enjoyable. Now, I only use half and half in my afternoon cup during my eating window. In the morning, it’s just black. It will take time for your tastebuds to adjust to the lack of sugar.

OP, I feel your pain because I too like a little coffee with my sugar. You could try switching to hot tea instead. Some flavors are naturally more sweet (to me anyway). I’ve read the debate about using artificial sweeteners and whether it breaks your fast or not. That could be an option for you to add some sweetness. Another option is to slowly cut back on the amount of sugar/creamer you use until you get to where you’re not using any but your taste has been adjusted to that. Idk but I wish you good luck with your journey 👍🏼😊

Answer

I haven’t been able to get into black coffee yet. I did try cold brew with a pinch of salt and cinnamon like I saw someone post on here and it wasn’t bad. They also make teas that have caffeine levels comparable to coffee and I have no issue drinking unsweetened tea so that works best for me during my fasting window and then I can have coffee with creamer when my fast ends. If I’m doing a longer fast and I’m in serious need of coffee, I will use the <50 cal cheat for creamer but I will measure it out to make sure it really is <50 cals and I only do this rarely.

Answer

I’ve always preferred black coffee, but the longer I go without sugar or other sweeteners the more my taste moves toward enjoying sour and bitter everything. Give it time, and try not to indulge in alternative sweeteners to kick that habit completely.
