Long fasts vs short fasts (72hr or less)?

5’6”/18-21 yo/F/135 lbs

I’m here to lose weight 25lbs before November (trying to get back to 110lbs because I usually stay around 110-115. I’ve never been this big lol I ate so much cake during quarantine it’s nuts). I see on this Reddit a lot of people say do 72 hr refeed then 72 again and so on. Why is this?

I used to fast all the time when I was younger (mostly for religious reasons but also I just forgot to eat sometimes). I would do it with only water for long periods of time usually (in terms of religion) so that’s why I ask.

Answer

fast as long as you can then refeed low carb.

people do 72s because it allows them to eat. if you don’t feel the need/want to eat then continue fasting.

there’s no magic to 72s. it’s just one of the many ways one can lose fat. cole came up with it to help people not to binge.

if a person ate whatever on their refeed, it would take 48 hours to get back into ketosis. thus, the last 24 hours of the 72 you’re burning fat again.
