Low Blood Pressure

Does anyone else struggle with low pressure? I don’t see it mentioned a lot on the main fasting sub and the general advice of drink water/electrolytes is of course always key.

That noted, I’ve always had low blood pressure (confirmed as docs as not underlying something else). Switching to a diet with less meat and more plants (turns out beets are great for lowering blood pressure) has not helped it!

Do you have low blood pressure, particularly while fasting, long term or IF? How do you cope? I’m at a health BMI, but could still lose 5 lbs and love all the other health benefits of fasting, but really struggle sometimes not from hunger, but feeling faint.

Answer

I have very low blood pressure and fasting definitely makes it worse. When I do water fasts I keep licking salt from my palm every hour, I don’t exercise and I am verrry careful when standing up. But I’ve never gone past 48 hours as it just gets too severe past that point. I just mix a bunch of different IFs and be patient with a slower loss. But yeah, when I feel faint licking salt helps a ton

Answer

I try to make sure I get enough electrolytes and water. But if I fast 3 days I have to be extra careful every time I stand up. Sometimes I do a half squat or some heel raises when I stand so that I don’t get tunnel vision.(I also have raynaud’s syndrom, which might complicate the low blood pressure symptoms. My circulation is bad, and at three days my hands and feet are waaaay too cold so I break my fast.)

Answer

I’ve been struggling with low blood pressure too! Currently trying to force my way through an extended fast despite the symptoms. Tomorrow I might try to consume ridiculous amounts of salt because today I was popping salt pills all day and nothing happened.

Will update with results! When I’m not feeling faint or struggling with a headache, fasting makes me feel amazing so I hope I can figure some way around it this time.

Answer

I have low blood pressure normally and now that I’m pregnant it seems to be even lower. My husband is a Pharm D student so he has the tool to take my blood pressure so we do it everyda. Last night it was 93/60. and its been like that for about a week or so. I’m trying to eat more salt but I’m also pregnant and that can’t be too good for the baby so I get scared to continuously eat super salty things. I’m also trying to drink sports drinks more and I already drink a lot of water normally.

I never noticed low blood pressure until I had this weird few weeks (maybe 4-6 weeks) of this pretty much constant light headed/vertigo feeling that basically lasted from the morning I woke up to when I went to bed. This was int he fall of 2018 before I was preggo. I thought I had a tumor or something, got an MRI and it came back clear. Went to the ER when I couldn’t breath properly and felt super detached and worried, like something bad was going to happen to me. Was discharged because my heart rate was fine and at that point my blood pressure was actually slightly elevated. I was told that was a panic/anxiety attack or migraine attack.

Telling my GP and neurologist my symptoms they keep asking me how my stress was but I don’t think it can possibly be anxiety. I can understand anxiety attacks but to wake up and have basically constant dizziness as anxiety symptoms? Doesn’t seem right to me. Now I’m getting the constant dizziness back, a pressure in my neck, and migraine headaches. Not sure what’s anxiety, what’s pregnancy and whats the issue I had a few months back (Because it feels very similar). I know if I go to my GP he’s just going to say “have more salt” but if this truly is a result of low blood pressure (which pregnancy can make even lower) is salt the only real way to raise it?
