Low blood sugar

I’ve been using a continuous glucose monitor to see how different food’s affect me. So far it’s been amazing - no problems. Im 45 hrs into a 72 hour fast and my blood glucose is getting low, 53 mg/dL. I can’t find any information on fasting and low blood sugar online. I don’t have any weird symptoms, heart rate is good etc. Any advice?

Hey OP, I’m a T1 diabetic with a cgm. I recommend picking up a cheap blood glucose meter (finger pick style) sometimes my cgm will give me odd readings and I verify with my glucose meter. Also 50’s is starting to get low, especially if you live by yourself.

My blood sugar gets low when I fast. It’s been 69 before. I’m not diabetic or anything. From my understanding as long as you feel fine it’s normal. If you start having low blood sugar symptoms then that’s when you should worry and break.

As a diabetic, there’s no way in hell I would just shrug off a blood glucose level in the 50s. My doctor would shout at me, because it’s very dangerous. Now, it’s true that your body is probably able to store sugars to release in an emergency (mine’s not) but there is a limit, especially if you’re not taking in anything to replenish that resource. Low blood sugar can be fatal, so please, if your sugar is that low for an extended period of time just drink some juice and start the fast over on another day.
