Low blood sugar on my fast

I dry fasted 44 hours and decided to break it yesterday afternoon. I was feeling weak and shaky so checked my blood sugar and it was 43😳😳 I had checked it earlier that morning and it was 65. I had three 1 hour Coaching sessions and one 2 hour podcast interview so basically was sitting and talking for 5 hours. What do you think happened? Normally when eating my blood sugar is in the 80s

I have not fasted regularly in a long time. But I have seen my blood sugar drop into the 40s on the third day of a fast in the past.

I follow a carnivore diet so I am already fat adapted and in ketosis all the time. Thanks for your input

Answer

Some thoughts that come to mind: Dry fasting means no water. Was your electrolyte balance affected by lack of water leading to drop in blood sugar? Were other hormones raised/lowered by the fast? How long have you followed a carnivore woe? Are you certain you are fully fat adapted? With no protein intake and therefore no gluconeogenesis, did your blood sugar drop as a result? Do you have any previous or current metabolic dysfunction? Do you take any medications that could have dropped your blood sugar? Are you male/female? If female, where are you in your monthly cycle?

I’m certainly as stumped as you are and am curious what could be the factors causing your symptoms.
