Low heart rate

Has anyone experienced a low heart rate as a result of dry fasts?

My experience has been the opposite, usually i get a much more erratic and fast heart beat, but this time around after 12 hours in my heart rate is consistently in the 54-60 range, most of the measurements are at 57 I am 19 and don’t do a lot of cardio except for the occasional hike and lot’s of sauna so i don’t know if this is a reasonable heart rate to expect.

It freaked me out a bit so i broke the fast and had a bit of potassium and sodium, so far it hasn’t gone up yet, i don’t feel dizzy or particularly tired (no more than you’d expect from someone who just woke up) and my blood pressure is normal.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience? Should i be worried?

It’s actually normal. If I come from an unhealthy diet my heart rate is usually at 85 which is pretty high but I personally don’t workout. I only walk. Over the next few days of a dry fast it usually goes to 70, 60 and usually by the 5th to 7th day I’m at 55-50. It supposed to be the resting heart rate of a trained athlete. I personally think that anything between 50 - 100 is fine. They say you should worry when it gets to 110 - 120. You definitely should break your fast when it gets there.

When you go back to eating, your heart rate should go back to what you are used to.

I have never had an issue with my heart rate getting to 50 on my fasts but if you are worried, of course you should check with your doctor.

Depends how you feel, for safety go get your heart checked at the doc. Maybe your heart has endured stress or inflammation or something, they can detect it.

For context Ive done moderately a lot of sports and heart rate is constantly between 45-60, but I also had signs of pericarditis, sharp chest pains. I also had a contraction of a blood vessel or something on the heart during which I fell to the ground from the shock. They detected it and for now I have made my lifestyle towards more relaxing and walking, meditating. Getting rid of anxiety etc. Not pushing myself to the limit when doing sports.

Ive found emotional pain, sitting and laying down a lot, working long hours, eating before bed, these things are really bad for heart for me.

btw sauna is extra stress on body so cut back on it if you feel its hard on the heart.

Answer

I would be a lot more worried with irregular and/or high resting heart rate than low, unless it goes super low compared to your fitness level etc. Like athletes can go as low as 40 sometimes without it being a problem. I would look for other symtoms too, not just the low heart rate.
