Low heart rate and fasting?

My resting heart rate stays around 55 bpm and has been this way for years without issue, but I notice at around the 4th day of fasting it gets even slower and it starts to scare me. Anyone know anything about whether this is potentially dangerous or not? Or to anyone who also has a naturally slow heart rate, have you completed long fasts successfully? My body fat clocks in at exactly 20%, so maybe slowing down the heart rate is my body just trying to preserve energy? I have no history of heart problems

Answer

Your body compensates by becoming more “energy efficient.”

Your metabolic rate may be “slower” acutely during resting periods but should remain stable over period of days.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) increases.

You might feel it increase during short bouts of exercise or anytime your body goes under any type of stress. It’s a way for your body to actually preserve energy when needed due to your body’s ability to adapt and be smart w/ its’ own energy reserves. It’s pretty fascinating.
