low monocytes blood test

I started IF about 1.5 weeks ago and had a blood test Friday. Just a CBC. Everything came back normal but today I noticed a differential come back with low monocytes and low absolute monocytes.

Normal range of monocytes is 4.9 - 12.5 and mine is 2

Normal range for absolute monocytes is .26 a .87 and mine is .09

I tend to have health anxiety so not googling extensively on this and I emailed the doc, but I did see that IF reduced monocytes but shouldn’t in healthy individuals.

Curious if anyone else has had this come up and what’s their story. I’ll report back and if this isn’t allowed, i’ll remove.

Answer

1.5 weeks seems quick to affect things so markedly, but I did have low WBCs too. For me it was low lymphocytes and platelets, with monocytes on the low side but not actually outside of the reference range. I had surgery coming up two weeks after that so I scrapped the fasting plan in case it was contributing and just ate “normally,” which worked out to maybe 12:12 instead of the 18:6 or 20:4 I had been doing. Surgery was now five days ago and I’m supposed to get a repeat CBC soon so it’ll be interesting to see what has happened.
