Lowered heart rate? Does that also lower calories burned at rest?

Since fasting my resting heart rate has lowered from averaging 65 to averaging 59. Does a lower heart rate mean also a lower calorie burn at rest? Is it common for average heart rate to lower so easily and quickly?

Answer

I am not an expert.

My understanding is that a lowered rhr means your body is becoming more efficient at distributing blood, unless there is an underlying medical condition.

If it’s been a really short window since you’ve started, I would seek out medical advice.

From my limited research, the amount of energy needed to keep your heart beating is fairly negligible compared to other functions of the body, when you’re considering bmr.

For me, I’ve been working hard on zone 2 training and IF for my overall health. I’ve found over the last 7 months that my rhr has gone down a lot over this time and my heart rate recovery is getting higher.

I’ve heard that (don’t take my word for it, im no professional, ask a doctor if you’re worried):

The lowered pulse is likely related to your thyroid and it’s normal for the pulse to go down if you don’t get enough carbs in. And your metabolism is slightly lowered which can also be noticed by cold fingers/foots among other symptoms.

Maybe consider that for your refeeds, if you allow carbs, then add some extras, if you don’t allow carbs, increase your protein to compensate through it’s thermic effect

I had concerns from symptoms and went for blood work and doctor said nothings wrong, although he told me to not use google so much.
