Mct oil

Can I take mct oil during a prolonged fast? Would my weight still go down or would I need to not have any calories at all during prolonged fast? Would be only around 300 calories a day

Answer

There’s research that shows you still get most of the benefits of fasting with less than 500 calories.

However. That’s 300 calories of body fat you won’t use that day. If you’re fine without why add it?

Answer

I’m gonna break with tradition a bit and say that although yes MCT oil does have calories, it also stimulates endogenous ketone production, so if you’re struggling it might make things easier.

I personally get terrible headaches when fasting sometimes and I’m fairly certain it’s because my body has not ramped up the production of ketones yet (I drink plenty of snake juice so I know it’s not electrolytes). Last time I took MCT oil and the headaches went away within an hour. If a spoonful of MCT in your coffee helps you fight through another day, why not? Worrying about 300 calories vs up to 2000 you’ll burn by sticking it out another day strikes me as being penny wise and pound foolish.

I guess it may reset the autophagy rate, but in my experience it hasn’t been as much of an all-or-nothing thing. And also I personally wouldn’t go any dirtier than MCT and herbal teas - chewing gum, mints, anything with artificial sugars or flavors in it.
