(Metric)Calorie counting while Intermittent Fasting 16/8?

Hi.

For the past month and a half, I’ve been calorie counting to not eat more than 6200kj a day and maintaining a 8 hour eating window with 16 hours only drinking water. I’ve lost around 7kg. I don’t exercise and mainly sit at a desk for most of the day.

Does it ultimately help to do both? Or should I change how I’ve been doing things? Any further tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answer

Weight loss requires a caloric deficit. Part of the idea with IF is that by restricting your eating window, you will eat fewer calories than you would if you were grazing all day long.

You can also create a caloric deficit by burning more calories than you consume. Some people do that with a higher activity level.

If counting calories helps you to make sure you are in a caloric deficit, then it works for you.
