Morning Coffee?

I have been doing OMAD consistently for last 2 months and lost 10 lb.

Recently, I checked my blood glucose level after drinking my morning coffee - one with stevia and one with 1 TBSP of heavy cream. In the first case my blood glucose level before and after drinking coffee was 74 and 88, while in second case it was 73 and 84. So clearly in both cases insulin was rising.

I don’t really love black coffee, so need it to add something small - either cream or stevia. My question is, both 88 and 84 were still relatively low. Will it still kick me out of fasted state if I continue to add a little something to my coffee?

Answer

The heavy cream will for sure. Any food stops the fasting process. I am from the school of anything that raises insulin levels messes with my fasted state. Raised insulin levels make the body hold onto fat.

I got used to black coffee by using some good beans. If you had to choose I’d do the cream though. Things like MCT oil or coconut oil blended in well have calories and fat but not raise insulin. It’s kind of pick your poison depending on goals.

Answer

  1. Been drinking black coffee since I was 14. Went through a phase for a year or two with a splash of ID Irish crème. Black is the way to go. Never drank coffee for the taste. Drank it to wake up. Just keep drinking it. It’ll grow on ya.

Answer

If you’re determined to keep your coffee you can drink it black, or add a tiny bit of salt to curb the sharpness of it. After 25 years of drinking coffee daily, I quit cold turkey and intend to experiment with fasting without caffeine at all. I’ve heard good things about giving it up. Maybe that’s something to consider?
